Jeevan Construction Inc. is a small Toronto-based construction, restoration and renovation company with a big heart. Working with companies like this is a real pleasure; especially when you get to build a new identity and implement it into a variety of collateral. Have a look at what they've had done so far. They were overjoyed with the results.
Identity
When the client first approached me, interest rested solely in the creation of a website. Jeevan Inc. had not previously considered a designer and as such had no corporate identity; their business card (pictured below) did have a logo, but I wondered if it might benefit from something less literal and more colourful. In any case, I told them that if Jeevan was going to have a web presence, an identity would need to come first.
My contact told me that Jeevan's clientele are mostly upscale homeowners who are looking to improve certain parts/aspects of their home. I would later get to document this firsthand.
After several iterations, the logo they liked best had an elegant serif typeface (Garamond Pro) for "Jeevan" in a subdued green to represent the calmness of the lawn of a home and reflect the company's eye for finesse. The rest of the wordmark is set in a simpler sans-serif (Myriad Pro). Coloured grey and placed below "Jeevan", these characters imply a concrete foundation and help balance out some of the other more delicate aspects (it is a construction company after all) of the logo.
Business Card
Now that the client had a new logo, their existing cards needed to be updated. Using the same subdued green and the reverse version of the logo, the cards needed to be tasteful and concise.
The back of the card features the companies slogan and a list of services that they provide.
One of Jeevan's core strengths is the wide variety of quality work they can do. We decided that the best way for the website to convey this versatility would be through images of the beautiful work they had done. While the the company had already amassed several hundred images, the quality of the these images was not excellent. More importantly did not do justice to the scope of their work. New images were needed.
Choosing a fine autumn day, my contact at Jeevan and I drove to five active work sites. During this time, I took hundreds of images (using a quality camera) and spoke to the client to get a deeper understanding of the company and their work for the copy I would write for the site.
PART 2: LOOK AND FEEL
The website needed to carry on with the classiness and simplicity of the cards and identity. The navigation is very simple; with company info along the top and the many services the company provides along the left side.
New content is paraded through the homepage until there's something new to replace it. The services pages include photo galleries with before and after images.
The whole site runs with HMTL, CSS with flash elements and images. I continue to administer and update the site.
